About This Journal

Vision:

Journal of Global South Sport Studies (JGSSS) envisions a transformative academic platform that critically addresses and reshapes the discourse in sport by foregrounding the unique experiences, challenges, and contributions of people, communities, and organizations in the Global South.

Mission:

Our mission is to critically examine and transform existing academic narratives in sport studies by:

  • Augmenting voices and experiences from the Global South in the realms of sports that have been marginalized in Global North-centric academic outlets.
  • Encouraging interdisciplinary research that intersects sport management, sport studies, physical education, recreation and leisure studies, kinesiology, sport education, international relations, and the sociology of sport with issues of colonialism, racial capitalism, ethnicities, globalization, gender, race, religion, environmental, and socio-economic disparities.
  • Fostering a space for scholarly debate and knowledge exchange that prioritizes the Global South epistemologies, methodologies, and perspectives.
  • Challenging Eurocentric biases and assumptions in sport research, thereby promoting a more inclusive and diverse academic inquiry.

Commitment:

We are dedicated to creating a scholarly environment that respects, values, and integrates the Global South's diverse cultural, historical, and political realities. Our commitment extends to ensuring equitable access to publication opportunities for researchers from varied linguistic and academic backgrounds. JGSSS will be published biannually in June and December.

Multilingual Publishing Statement:

In its first year, JGSSS will publish articles in English, laying the groundwork for a diverse and inclusive academic exchange. As we look towards the future, our goal is to become a multilingual platform, extending our publication to languages such as Arabic, Urdu, Hindi, Turkish, Swahili, and more. This ambitious expansion will be contingent upon our ability to assemble a team of skilled reviewers proficient in these languages. We are committed to ensuring the integrity and quality of the peer-review process across all languages, and as such, the progression to multilingual publishing will be closely aligned with our capacity to engage multilingual reviewers.
