Abstract
This project aims to investigate and analyze what type of difficulties students are facing in their first days in school and in a remote environment. A needs assessment was performed to identify the issues by analyzing the monthly client reports developed by the UMass’s student help center. The biggest issue identified was related to the use of the learning management system called Blackboard. Additionally, this project proposes a learning solution to address students' questions and complaints related to the use of basic features in Blackboard. The instructional goal is: “UMass Boston students need to be more well-prepared in the Blackboard learning tool to succeed in their first days of online classes.” The use of storyboards, Google survey forms, and screencast tools to capture images are the materials developed to implement the course. Following the ADDIE model's phases, only the analysis, design, development of the storyboards, and evaluation were performed in this project. The implementation is under the discretion of the eLearning Instruction Design department at UMass Boston.
