Abstract
This chapter presents a brief overview of higher education programs for young adults with ID. Challenges related to academic disclosure for students with ID and their support mediators (e.g., program staff and families) are explored, including complications with how ID is defined, assigned, and disclosed by institutions and students themselves. Additionally, social disclosure issues that result from interactions of students’ goals, program structures, and campus institutions are examined. Finally, policy and practice recommendations that facilitate inclusion of students with ID and address disclosure concerns are identified.
