Volume 23, Issue 2 (2024) Race and the Urban Environment
This 40th anniversary special edition of the Trotter Review is the first issue of the publication in nearly a decade with the last edition (focused on gentrification) appearing in 2016. The Trotter Review has been published by the William Monroe Trotter Institute for the Study of Black Culture and the University of Massachusetts Boston for several decades since the founding of the Trotter Institute at UMass in 1984. It is a journal that focuses on the study of the Black experience, race, and Black communities in Boston, greater New England, and the world. The Review has also specifically focused on both historical and current issues shaping the Black experience particularly in Boston to encourage action by scholars, staff, students, and elected officials in addressing these concerns. Some core themes of the Review are to (1) instigate policymakers to make decisions that constructively impact all constituents, (2) promote and increase dialogue between community members, scholars, students, and elected officials, (3) and to advance a greater understanding of Black history and culture.Front Matter
