Abstract

Multisoliton solutions---breathers in particular---are supported by the 1D Gross-Pitaevskii equation (1D GPE), known to be integrable. The 3D generalization of this equation (3D GPE) describes the dynamics of Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) of cold atomic vapors in optical traps. In this thesis we present a simulation of a BEC showing 1D breather behavior when the BEC is confined to a proximity to a 1D regime.
