Abstract
Big Sound is a novel in progress. In these four stories, witty and thoughtful painter Marie Lennon reflects on her recently dissolved marriage, considers the awkward and exciting potential of new relationships, and enjoys fierce and loyal friendship with important women in her life. Through the often comic lens of Marie’s self-preoccupation and relentless judgment of others, this thesis considers questions of contemporary gender dynamics, the politics of privilege in creative work, and the modern meaning of marriage.
