Abstract

Research indicates links between trauma exposure in toddlers and emerging psychopathology, future emotional problems, and negative physical health outcomes. This project is designed to examine the effects of different types of potentially traumatic exposure on toddler language and cognitive functioning. Developmentally appropriate measures, including primary caregiver clinical interviews and primary caregiver-report questionnaires are employed to evaluate relations between potential traumatic exposure and cognitive and social-emotional functioning. Deeper understanding of the effects of trauma on toddler development may prompt a more expedient and targeted administration of treatment than is currently standard practice.
