Abstract
This report provides a descriptive snapshot of selected demographic, economic, educational, and social indicators of foreign-born Latinos in Massachusetts. In 2024, there were 467,751 foreign-born Latinos in Massachusetts. Of this population, 64.8% are noncitizens, and FOREIGN-BORN LATINOS IN MASSACHUSETTS: Economic Lifeline, Policy Crossroads The Mauricio Gaston Institute for Latino Community Development and Public Policy 175,000 have an irregular immigration status. The state has a greater share of foreign-born residents (18.8%) than the United States as a whole (14.8%), and the same trend occurs for Latinos, as Massachusetts Latinos are 40.7% foreign-born, while the country’s Latinos are 33.9% foreign-born. At the same time, Massachusetts has 332,420 Puerto Ricans, ranking fifth among states. Puerto Ricans, who are U.S. citizens by birth, make up 28.9% of Latinos in the state and 47.8% of the state’s U.S.-born Latino population.
