Abstract

A GOOD WOMAN SHOULD is a collection of poems examining the expectations, rules, and social pressures surrounding the word “should” through the framework of both documentary poetics and personal narrative. It navigates through external and internal pressure built up through religion, media, family units, laws, and self-help books, specifically towards women. How do we know how to live a life? This is the question these poems seek to answer, and ask, and answer anew.
