Abstract
BROTHER LIKE THAT is a collection of poems that deals with grief, loss, love, and growing up. BROTHER LIKE THAT seeks to explore a realistic portrayal of the death of a loved one, specifically focusing on drug addiction, mental illness, small towns, and adolescent siblinghood. These poems, accompanied by illustrations, serve to inform readers of the emotional weight and trauma of losing a family member, while concentrating on the beautiful and sentimental parts of grief. The paring of the two mediums searches the depths of loss, saturating the experience in color, light, and vibrance. BROTHER LIKE THAT is an homage to a life cut short, the suffering of an entire family, and a compassionate, loving perspective on life.
