This article focuses on the inner struggles that the author dealt with growing up as an overachiever. Drawing from readings in the textbook, Inside Social Life, co-edited by Spencer Cahill and Kent Sandstrom, and James W. Pennebaker’s Opening Up, she highlights past experiences to provide clarity on these struggles. She describes how and when the overachieving mindset was manifested, and explores the ethno racial and self-esteem issues she faced in her personal growth and social development.
