Abstract

Capaccio Environmental Engineering, Inc., is a rapidly growing multi-service environmental, health & safety engineering and consulting firm. Due in part to rapid growth and to a focus on clients, and related inattention to staff development, company’s leadership had overlooked some internal trainings needs, most especially the new hire orientation. Realizing the need to improve the new hire orientation, the organization has elected to invest in developing a training intervention to replace the outdated orientation resource currently in place. After an initial needs analysis including interviews, a survey, and a review of best practices, the project scope focused on implementing a self-paced online training that will enable new starters to have direct access to information. The goal of the learning intervention is to provide new employees with information regarding the organization to enable them to assimilate in the company effectively. Keeping in line with the analysis conclusions and the instructional strategy plan that was established early in the instructional design process, a self-paced computer-based course with narration is under development. The President of the organization requested that the storyboard and most importantly the audio script be reviewed and approved by the Senior Management prior to development, to ensure that the course matches the organizational needs and the expectations of the company, and that the course material resonates with the company vision and perspective. A portion of the storyboard has been approved and a pilot of the course has been developed. A formative evaluation was conducted by way of a questionnaire and review and feedback process. Recommended changes were implemented. Pending full approval the course will be completed and packaged for use by Capaccio Environmental Engineering, Inc.
