Abstract

As a new hire to a health system, whether in a medical role or administrative role, orientation may be overwhelming, and onboarding is crucial. Whether new to the medical field or familiar with a health system, onboarding training is essential for a foundational knowledge and awareness of the organization, hierarchy, departments, roles, and terms. Without said foundational knowledge, introduction to the new role may be prolonged or stressed.

A fictitious health system was created for this training, with information within specific enough to apply to a health system, but general enough to reduce likeness to any one specific health system. The training was developed for any role, with any experience type – the one common characteristic is that the trainee is a new hire. The training takes place after initial onboarding tasks, such as communication with human resources, and before an in-person orientation – to better prepare the new hire for their first day on the job.
